This handbook - A Phonic Skills Handbook- has been designed and developed to facilitate the reading process. It has special use for remedial readers, struggling spellers and all those who experience phonic weaknesses (difficulty reading fluently and efficiently).

Words are grouped according to sound patterns and spelling patterns, thereby making it easier for the reader to sound unfamiliar words, and to learn to spell the relevant combinations in the English Language that produce the particular sound.

Graphic images are inserted in each column to facilitate the sounding of the various word groups, so self-help is an important component built into the layout and presentation of the book. The images can also be used creatively by the reading tutor to assist the reader in acquiring relevant sound pattern, and to motivate him/her to become an independent reader.

It is recommendedthat this reference book - A Phonic Skills Handbook - should be used by reading instructors in the delivery of remedial phonic instruction and by all those students who wish to upgrade their reading and spelling independently.
